Alison Gopnik (Child psychologist) says :  The “carpenter” thinks that his or her child can be molded. “The idea is that if you just do the right things, get the right skills, read the right books, you’re going to be able to shape your child into a particular kind of adult,” she says.

The “gardener,” on the other hand, is less concerned about controlling who the child will become and instead provides a protected space to explore. The style is all about “creating a rich, nurturant but also variable, diverse, dynamic ecosystem.  The “gardener” parent takes a more hands-off approach. We can’t force a plant to become a plant, to lean toward the sun, to unfurl its leaves, to grow flowers. But we can provide nutrient-rich soil and sufficient amounts of sunlight and water. Gardeners believe the same holds true for children. Provide a nourishing environment and they will become what they’re meant to be on their own.

Choose your way of parenting & schooling for your children carefully as we cannot raise our children the way our parents raised us. Because our parents raised us for a world that no longer exists now.

So are you a Gardener or a Carpenter or both or want to define your own way for Your Child?
